The History of Massage - Massage is one of the earliest healing practices of humankind. The art of massage is found in writings as early as 2000 B.C. If we go ahead and jump to modern times, we find that swedish physiologist, Per Henrik Ling (1776-1839) is the man responsible for taking many techniques and organizing them into the system thatwe know today as "Swedish Massage". Swedish massage is the most widely-used modality and is often incorporated into other procedures. There are many effective modalities that deal with different elements of the human body. Whatever method the practitioner prefers, it is essential to be knowledgeable in all technical movements and the effects on the various body systems.

The Foundation - The Tripod Upon Which Therapy is Built is Honesty, Awareness, & Compassion. The therapist is honest with the client about the therapist's training, the therapist's intentions and the therapist's approach and plan of therapy. The therapist takes responsibility for being in a state that allows the therapist to be fully aware and at service to the client. The therapist actively creates a space of healing-a space in which the client experiences: a sense of trust, a sense of being taken care of, a sense of being listened to and a sense of being with a therapist who is totally there for the client.
